Pallet of batteries taken from store

TAYLOR - One trip was not enough for the three men who stole used car batteries and broke into a shipping container in the parking lot of the Main Street Walmart early Tuesday.

Borough Patrolman Brian Holland said a silver sedan pulled alongside the department store and three men got out at 2:22 Tuesday morning.

The men proceeded to cut the lock on the cage where used car batteries are kept and stole at least a pallet full of them. The men also broke into a shipping container, though it was unclear what may have been stolen, Patrolman Holland said.

Patrolman Holland said 12 used batteries were stolen from the battery cage. The used batteries are valued at $108.

If sold for scrap, the batteries could fetch a price between $10 to $15 each, Patrolman Holland said.

After the thieves loaded batteries into their car and drove away, they came back to the scene at 3:38 a.m. to search through the container again.

Walmart employees are still going through the crate to determine what and how much was stolen. Patrolman Holland said the crate contained electronics.

Since it was raining, the surveillance footage was blurry, but officers were able to make out a white jacket worn by one of the men.

Anyone with information is asked to contact borough police at 562-2210.
