75 years ago, movies playing locally: "Something To Sing About" at the Capitol, "Life Begins in College" at the Riviera, "The Perfect Specimen" at the Comerford, "This Way Please" at the Family Theater and "Stage Door" at the Strand.
50 years ago, a fire at the Spa Bar & Grill at 316 N. Washington Ave. caused considerable damage to the kitchen. The fire was caused by an overheated oven on a uninsulated floor at the restaurant on the first floor of the Scranton Real Estate Building.
25 years ago, a riot took place in Dunmore the night before. Dunmore police estimated about 250-300 teenagers were involved. So many eggs were thrown that the Dunmore Fire Department sprayed down cars with fire hoses.
10 years ago, four previous Scranton fire chiefs, John Lawless, Robert Ruddy, Richard Pica and Harvey Applegate, opposed Mayor Chris Doherty's recovery plan.
