Meet Elizabeth Polishan ...

School: Holy Cross High School

Parents: Lisa and Michel Kiernan

Plans: To attend either Boston College or the University of Scranton to major in literary writing

Literature. Photography. Drawing. Writing.

Elizabeth Polishan loves anything related to the arts. And it all boils down to one thing, one passion.

"The creativity aspect of it. Imagining things," she said.

The Holy Cross High School senior participated in a dual enrollment program at Marywood University, where she prepared a video for her final project in a composition theory class, writing the script herself and putting the lessons of the class into practice.

She credits her mother for her love of reading, writing and art in general.

"When I was little she'd read me books all the time. She's a fantastic artist so she's definitely encouraging in that aspect," Elizabeth said.

When she was not reading James Joyce or Ernest Hemingway in high school or taking upper level French and theology classes, she was participating in Arts Alive, summer theater camp, various volunteer activities for cancer research, helping at church related activities and volunteering at the Catherine McAuley Center.

Teachers describe Elizabeth as prepared, self-motived, engaged, well-rounded, wholesome, talented and smart, which translated to her SAT score, which was an almost-perfect 780 in the written portion of the exam. She also has a 3.85 grade point average in the classroom.

Elizabeth aspires to be a published author who travels and has an awesome shoe closet wherever her future home may be.

No matter what she chooses to pursue or where she will end up for college, Elizabeth lives by a simple motto:

"Love yourself."
