Meet Lindsey Rae Evans ...
School: Mid Valley High School Parents: Theodore R. Evans and Denise L. Evans Plans: Attend Penn State to major in aerospace engineering and possibly minor in political science.
To say Lindsey Rae Evans has her head in the clouds is inaccurate.
The Mid Valley senior has her sights set a little higher - space.
Lindsey said in 15 years, she hopes to be working for NASA or an engineering firm. The idea took root when her older brother started looking into engineering programs at college and was solidified in 2010 as she dangled from wires - in a full space suit - repairing a satellite during a simulation at the Advanced Space Academy in Huntsville, Ala.
The multitalented student said the accomplishments she is most proud of thus far though, have been in another field. She has been dual-enrolled at Penn State Worthington Scranton since she was a sophomore.
"My experiences at Penn State gave me confidence in myself when competing on a college level and gave my family a headstart in paying for tuition later on," Lindsey said.
Also an accomplished pianist, she has twice played at Carnegie Hall.
"My Carnegie Hall performances helped me to overcome my fears of stage fright as well as allowed me to play in one of the most prestigious competitions in our region," she said.
Lindsey has been an active participant in the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership for Service program, logging more than 149 hours of service. And, she also finds time for soccer, which she credits with teaching her, "independence, leadership skills, dedication and the importance of teamwork."
"I always loved working with my fellow players and feel as though I gained a second family from my time with the sport," she said.
As she heads out into the world - and beyond, Lindsey plans to "live every moment without regrets."
