A Scranton DPW worker who phoned in a fake bomb threat March 8 pleaded guilty to a summary offense at a preliminary hearing Wednesday.

Lackawanna County District Attorney Andy Jarbola said Mark Jakes, 47, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct but will not serve any prison time. Exact details on Mr. Jakes' sentencing were unavailable Wednesday night.

Mr. Jakes called the DPW dispatch at 1:06 p.m. and said a bomb in the building was set to go off at 1:15 p.m. A short time later, Mr. Jakes identified himself to Scranton DPW Director Mark Dougher and other co-workers as the one who made the call as a joke.

He had not been working pending the results of the charges and will be suspended until the human resources department comes to a final decision, which he expects sometime this week, Mr. Dougher said.
