Dickson City officials filed a lawsuit against the owner of a blighted property Thursday, asking for up to $1,000 for each violation of property code.

Sunita Arora's property at 1037-39 Main St. was searched by James Damski, borough code official, who found the structure "unfit for human occupancy," according to an affidavit.

Deficiencies included obstructed exits, no locks on doors, buckling porches and a lack of heating system. The suit also listed a hazardous electrical system, signs of cracking in the foundation and "signs of infestation of insects, birds, rats and/or other vermin."

The homeowner was contacted in April and October 2012 and a letter dated Dec. 6 stated that all problems were to be repaired and corrected within 45 days.

The borough has sued several other property owners for similar blight issues throughout the last year.

"We just want to be aggressive in these actions," said council President Barbara Mecca. "We feel it's for the health and welfare of our residents. We will continue to be aggressive."
