SCRANTON - City police are investigating the attempted robbery of a pizza delivery driver on Monsey Avenue early this morning.

Acting Scranton police Capt. Glen Thomas said the 52-year-old delivery driver arrived in the 1400 block of Monsey Avenue to deliver an order that turned out to be a robbery set-up at about 1:30 a.m.

At that point, a black man standing about 6 feet tall, weighting about 180 pounds and dressed in a black coat and hooded sweatshirt told the driver to walk behind a home and tried to reach into the driver's pockets.

The would-be robber punched the driver in the face when the latter pushed him. The suspect then fled on foot, Capt. Thomas said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact city police at 348-4139.
