75 years ago, five homes in South Scranton were damaged when their foundations settled because of the collapsed of old mines owned by the Moffat Coal Co. Floors dropped by about 18 inches.
50 years ago, the day before, Moffat Coal Co. announced it donated a 30-acre tract along the Morgan Highway to the West Side Hospital to be used as the future home of the Community Medical Center after the consolidation of Hahnemann Hospital and West Side Hospital.
25 years ago, Mayor David Wenzel announced the 1988 city budget would increase property taxes by 17 percent.
10 years ago, the Scranton Parking Authority said it was raising the rate for rooftop parking at the Electric City and Linden Street garages. The daily rate was raised to $3, an increase of 10 cents, because officials said it was easier to make change.
