Stun gun used on alleged shoplifter

TAYLOR - Borough police used a stun gun on a Scranton man Wednesday night after he shoplifted, ran from officers and refused to stop, police said.

Christopher O'Connor, 33, 1840 N. Main Ave., ran from Price Chopper on South Main Avenue once police responded to a report of disorderly, intoxicated men shoplifting in the store, Officer Stephen Derenick said.

Two of the men had already fled when Officer Brian Holland arrived, found Mr. O'Connor running toward the rear of the store and stopped him with a Taser after a chase.

Mr. O'Connor was arrested for resisting arrest and retail theft. He was sent to Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $5,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.

Officer Derenick said the two other men have not been identified.
