Fatal Madison fire ruled accidental
MADISON TWP. - A fire Saturday morning that killed a 55-year-old man was accidental, Madisonville Fire Chief Kevin Emerson said Monday.
The fire, at 5370 Haas Pond Road, spread from a wood stove, the chief said.
The blaze killed George Jones Jr., whom firefighters found in a downstairs bedroom.
His wife, Karen, made it out of the home. His son, Adam, a Madisonville volunteer firefighter, was driving a firetruck that headed out to the blaze, the chief said. His son declined to comment.
"He held his composure," the chief said.
An autopsy Saturday afternoon showed the cause of death was carbon monoxide poisoning due to smoke inhalation.
Mr. Jones' obituary appears on Page B9.
