TAYLOR - Borough council members received a line-by-line breakdown of the proposed 2013 budget Monday night - one that leaves the borough with a more than $478,000 deficit.
The final budget of $3,462,630 includes increases in health insurance, Police Department and Department of Public Works contracts, and rising costs for fuel and supplies.
The difference could mean up to an 11.5-mill property tax for borough residents, said council President Kenneth Mickavicz, which the council plans to adopt at next week's meeting.
A mill is equal to a $1 tax for every $1,000 in assessed property value. The average residential property in Taylor is assessed at $10,643. The millage rate would mean a cost of $122.40 to the average taxpayer.
Council members will take the week to analyze the budget, then reconvene next week to discuss more cuts before the tentative budget it adopted, Mr. Mickavicz said.
