Lawrence T. Mattern has completed requirements for certification as a certified public accountant by the Pennsylvania state board of examiners. Mr. Mattern is a 2000 graduate of Bishop Hannan High School and received his Bachelor of Science in accounting from the University of Scranton in 2005. He is the son of Lawrence P. Jr. and Mary Mattern, and lives in Jefferson Twp. with his wife, Rebekah, and their children, Patrick and Emily.

Donna Palermo, chamber president, was presented with the Rose Tucker Award given by the Maternal Family and Health Services Inc. at an awards luncheon. This award is presented annually to someone who exemplifies a spirit of service and deep commitment to improving the quality of life for women and children in their community. State Rep. Tarah Toohil nominated Ms. Palermo for the award.

Molly Lorenzen, Newfoundland, has been hired as a economic development specialist with the Scranton Plan. In this position, she will be responsible for the economic development sales and marketing activities, proposals, financial applications, special events, and community partnership development. Ms. Lorenzen is a graduate of Bloomsburg University.
Harcum College
Sandra Whitacre Feather, a Clarks Summit resident, was recognized by her alma mater, Harcum College, with its Outstanding Alumni Award at its annual homecoming. Since graduating in 1985, she received a Bachelor of Science in molecular biology and a Master of Science in physical therapy and is currently working toward a Ph.D. in higher education leadership. Ms. Whitacre Feather served as the director of the physical therapy assistant program at Harcum College for nearly 10 years and later served as the director of admissions. Currently, she works as the director of enrollment at Pennsylvania State University.
Keystone Community Resources
Marie Hesser, a 46-year employee at Keystone, was honored for her lifetime achievement as a direct service provider and residence manager for one of the residences operated by Keystone. She was also named 2012 Direct Service Professional of the Year for the state by the American Network of Community Options and Resources.
Keystone also honored eight outstanding service award recipients: Louis Bernacki, behavior specialist; Ken Fleese, auto maintenance supervisor; Season Jackson, case management supervisor; Ann Slack, day services coordinator; Kristia Knapp, direct service provider; Beverly Mackes, supported living coach; Rich Everett, day program provider; and Joann Hollister, day program provider.
Lackawanna College
Dr. Sharon Nazarchuk, professor of sociology and chairwoman of the social sciences division at Lackawanna College, with her brother, Dr. Timothy Legg, professor, Kaplan School of Nursing, published a study in the American Journal of Recreation Therapy. "Professional Characteristics of Deficiency Citations at F248 in Skilled Nursing Facilities in the United States," researches the number of documented deficiencies found in nursing home staff, particularly certified therapeutic recreational therapists compared to certified activity directors.

Marilee Bamford-Barone returns to the construction industry as vice president of business operations at the company. Mrs. Barone assumes responsibilities of leadership in business relationships while providing strategic direction to the company's executive leadership team. Mrs. Barone is an active board member of Lourdesmont, a resident of Dunmore and has earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Scranton.

Richard Cardamon, owner of the Padgett Business Services, has opened a location in Archbald offering financial reporting, payroll and tax consulting. Mr. Cardamon was born and raised in Northeast Pennsylvania and received his accounting degree from Bloomsburg University. He is a certified public accountant and a chartered global management accountant. Mr. Cardamon and his wife, Robyn, have two sons.
PSU Worthington Scranton
Justina Ferguson, M.S.N., R.N., has joined the university as instructor of nursing. She will be teaching pathophysiology II and clinical for fundamentals. Ms. Ferguson received her bachelor's degree in nursing and a master's degree in nursing administration from Marywood University. She is also certified in advanced cardiac life support and has worked in the intensive care unit and as a nursing supervisor at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton. She has also worked as a preceptor for new hires in Moses Taylor's intensive care unit and as a member of the rapid response team for deteriorating patients and the cardiac arrest team. She lives in Dunmore with her husband, Kyle, and their dog and cat.
Professional Orthopaedic Associates
Nancy Naughton, occupational therapist and certified hand therapist, wrote her second book chapter, which was published by the American Society of Hand Therapists. She wrote the chapter on clinical evaluation of the hand and upper extremity for the Certified Hand Therapist Exam Prep Book. A graduate of Misericordia University, Ms. Naughton received her doctorate from Rocky Mountain University in Provo, Utah.
Pennsylvania Medical Society
C. Richard Schott, M.D., F.A.C.C., a cardiologist who practices in Delaware County, was sworn in as the 163rd president of the Pennsylvania Medical Society during the organization's annual statewide meeting in Hershey. Dr. Schott is board certified in cardiology, and a fellow in the American College of Cardiology. He has been a member of the Pennsylvania Medical Society for more than 20 years. Dr. Schott earned his medical degree from Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia where he also did his internal medicine and cardiology training, and has a Bachelor of Science from Lebanon Valley College in Annville. He and his wife, Judith, live in Rose Valley.
Tobyhanna Army Depot
Jeffrey O'Neill, a resident of Dunmore, is chief of the Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance Directorate's Counter Fire Division at the army depot. He supervises employees who repair, overhaul and reset AN/TPQ-36 and AN/TPQ-37 Firefinder Radar systems and Lightweight Counter Mortar Radar System. Mr. O'Neill began his depot career in 1998. He is a 1992 graduate of Dunmore High School and received an associate degree in biomedical equipment technology from Johnson College in 1994. He was part of the Mini-MUTES team that earned a Shingo Silver Medallion in 2011 and Commander's Award for Civilian Service earlier this year. He is a member of the Parish of SS. Anthony and Rocco in Dunmore.
Tamara Kappel, a Stroudsburg resident and equal employment opportunity specialist, was recognized with a national diversity award by the Hispanic Engineers National Achievement Awards Corp. at Disney's Coronado Spring Resort, Lake Buena Vista, Fla. She was awarded for her successful school outreach, mentoring and awareness programs for the depot.
