THROOP - Borough council moved to support a group opposed to Scranton's commuter tax at Monday's meeting.
In a unanimous decision, the council voted to contribute $200 to Scranton Taxing Our People, the organization of communities opposing the tax, to be used for legal fees.
Council President Thomas Lukasewicz stated that $200 was a minor fee to support residents, adding that commuters were unable to vote in favor of or against the officials imposing the tax - which he called "unjust."
The council also approved a resolution to "petition the Pennsylvania State Legislature to amend Act 47 to eliminate all language which allows the imposition of non-resident wage tax, commonly know as a commuter tax."
