A Wyoming County woman injured in a small plane crash that killed her husband in Missouri last week died Monday.

Suzanne Hazelton, 69, of Lake Winola, died Monday at about 5:30 p.m. at SSM DePaul Health Center in Bridgeton, Mo., said Rachel Peine, a hospital spokeswoman.

Mrs. Hazelton had been on life-support since the Oct. 24 crash.

Her husband and the plane's pilot, Russell Hazelton, 78, died at the hospital hours after the plane crashed into Creve Coeur Lake in Maryland Heights, Mo.

Emergency crews pulled the Hazeltons from the single-engine plane's cockpit, which was partially submerged in the lake, after it crashed at about 8:40 p.m.

Mr. Hazelton, a retired commercial airline pilot, attempted to land on the lake's shore but ended up hitting the water, authorities said. The plane flipped upon impact.

Witnesses told authorities they heard the plane's engine sputtering before it went down.

Mr. Hazelton initially flew out of Factoryville and, after stopping for fuel in Ohio, he was expected to land at the Creve Coeur Airport.

The National Transportation Safety Board has been investigating the crash though few additional details have been released. A preliminary report on the investigation is expected later this week.
