The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is activating its Incident Command Center on Thursday afternoon ahead of a winter storm expected to drop as much as one inch of snow.
The storm moving through the region is expected to bring rain during the day Thursday, changing over to snow Thursday night. The National Weather Service was predicting snowfall totals of “an inch or less.”
“However, untreated wet or slushy roads may ice over Thursday night as much colder air and gusty winds overspread the region,” the weather service warned. “This may result in slick roads tonight into Friday morning.”
PennDOT announced it will have crews treating roadways starting this afternoon and continuing until the storm passes.
“Although PennDOT will have crews treating roadways, the department’s primary goal is to keep roads passable, not completely free of ice and snow,” the agency cautioned in a statement.
PennDOT recommends people avoid traveling during winter storms, if possible, and to steer clear of snow plows if travel is necessary.
Road conditions will be posted to www.511PA.com.
