BLAKELY - The decision to change a borough street name drew some criticism at a council meeting Tuesday.
Council members voted unanimously to adopt an ordinance changing the name of Rear Main Street to Tiara Court at the special meeting, citing safety reasons.
There has been confusion over Rear Main Street during ambulance calls, council President Joe Quinn explained, adding that other communities also had streets with the same name.
Though the reason for changing the name wasn't disputed by Phyllis Ephault, 63, who owns property on the street, she was unhappy with the new name. Albert Baldoni, a developer who previously owned the street before donating it to the borough, chose the name.
"I have an issue with it being named after his daughter," she said, adding that she would have liked to see the street named for her parents, who were long-time residents on the road.
