Attorney William F. Anzalone spoke at the 11th annual Northeastern U.S. Conference on Disability sponsored by the University of Scranton. The conference focused on the subject of traumatic brain injury. Mr. Anzalone, who has represented many individuals who have suffered traumatic brain injuries from auto/truck and fall accidents, gave the presentation "Having Your Bell Rung on the Field: A Bell Ringer in the Courtroom," on traumatic brain injuries incurred by athletes and whether they have a claim that can be successful in the courtroom. Mr. Anzalone received his undergraduate degree from Temple University and his juris doctorate from the Dickinson School of Law.

Anthony Falvello, M.D., was elected to the foundation's board of directors. A native of the Hazleton area, Dr. Falvello studied biology at Pennsylvania State University and graduated in 1999. He earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2005. He then went on to an orthopedic surgery residency at Pinnacle Health System in 2005. He also studied trauma at Hershey Medical Center and pediatric orthopedics at Children's Healthcare in Atlanta. Dr. Falvello graduated from Pinnacle Health System's orthopedic surgery residency. He lives in Sugarloaf with his wife, Isabella, and their son, Wilson.

Attorney Daniel E. Cummins received notification that he has been awarded second place in the 2012 Schnader Print Media Awards Competition in the weekly newspapers category for his article "Call Me from the Road," which appeared in the Pennsylvania Law Weekly, a statewide legal news publication. The article provides an update on the status of Pennsylvania law and civil litigation on legislative bans against cellphone use while driving. Mr. Cummins is a graduate of Villanova University and the Dickinson School of Law.
Geisinger Community Medical Center
Maureen Fitzsimmons, R.N., B.S.N, M.P.H, N.E.A.B.C., has been appointed vice president of nursing at GCMC and the associate chief nursing officer for Geisinger Northeast. Ms. Fitzsimmons will work with GCMC leadership to provide direction and opportunity for campus nurses. She is a graduate of the nursing program at William Paterson University in Wayne, N.J., and earned a master's degree in public health from Columbia University in New York City.
Robert Leschingski, M.D., a native of Avoca, joined the medical center as director of the newly developed GCMC Hospitalist Program. The GCMC Hospitalist Program provides 24-hour-a-day coverage, seven days a week, for patients admitted to GCMC. Board-certified in internal medicine, Dr. Leschingski earned his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University College of Medicine, Philadelphia.

Sanjay Doddamani, M.D., was recently appointed to the position of system director of advanced cardiac disease and heart failure. Dr. Doddamani will lead the efforts of the heart failure teams throughout the entire Geisinger Health System. A 1995 graduate of St. John's Medical College in Bangalore, India, Dr. Doddamani completed his internal medicine residency at Danbury Hospital, Danbury, Conn., in 2001. He later completed a cardiology fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, in 2004. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in cardiovascular disease, heart failure and cardiac transplantation. He is also certified by the National Board of Echocardiography and the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, American College of Cardiology, American Society of Echocardiography and Society of Geriatric Cardiology.

Mr. Vergnetti is an aftercare coordinator and counselor at Clearbrook Treatment Centers. He and also serves as liaison for the community with the Lackawanna County Treatment Court. He is president of Vergnetti Consulting and president and owner of LPV Enterprises Inc., operating the food service at Wings Restaurant and Catering at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport for the past 40 years. He is a licensed insurance agent and broker as well. He serves as chairman of the board of ambassadors for the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute's Spirit of Hope Celebration. Mr. Vergnetti is a native of Scranton, the father of nine children, grandfather of 15 and great-grandfather of six.

Eric Smith, D.O., has joined the medical staff. Dr. Smith is a graduate of Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and is certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine. In addition to operating a private practice in Scranton, Dr. Smith is an associate clinical professor at the Commonwealth Medical College and part-time faculty for the Wright Center for Graduate Medical Education.
Wilkes-Barre General
Louis Sieminski recently received Honors of the Association at the Pennsylvania Academy of Audiology Convention. He received a plaque in recognition of outstanding contributions to the profession of audiology. Dr. Sieminski is involved in the initiation and development of the statewide program mandating infant hearing screening of all babies born in Pennsylvania and worked with Sen. Charles Lemmond to introduce the bill. He also developed one of the first infant hearing screening programs in the state at Nesbitt Hospital and currently oversees the program at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Dr. Sieminski was also instrumental in helping establish educational programs and classes for deaf and hard of hearing children when he worked as a consultant for the Luzerne Intermediate Unit. He has been an audiologist helping hearing impaired children and adults in Northeast Pennsylvania since 1974.
Wilkes University
Adam Welch, associate professor of pharmacy at the university, was recently named the 2012 Pharmacist of the Year by the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association. Mr. Welch, of Mountaintop, was honored with the award during the PPA's 2012 annual conference in Scranton.
Dr. Diane Hadley was named assistant professor of clinical pharmacy at University of the Sciences' Philadelphia College of Pharmacy. She earned her doctorate from Wilkes University.
