Scranton pair face drug, child charges

SCRANTON - Lackawanna County detectives arrested a city man and woman Friday with bags of heroin in a home filled with cockroaches, a pellet gun and the woman's toddler and 13-year-old boy.

Authorities condemned the 1528 Capouse Ave. apartment of Medeline Ortega, 40, and Cristobal Vazquez-Garcia, 36, and sent both children to foster care, police said.

The duo were charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, criminal conspiracy to possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest and endangering the welfare of children. Mr. Vazquez-Garcia was also charged with tampering with evidence.

Both are slated for preliminary hearings Thursday and are in Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of bail; $25,000 for Ms. Ortega and $50,000 for Mr. Vazquez-Garcia.
