The Riverside School District will pay $42,000 to a former employee who claimed he was fired for political reasons - one of them being he was a Taylor resident.

The district will pay Francis Mickavicz, the former buildings and grounds supervisor, the settlement money through insurance carrier School Claims Service, once the board officially votes to approve the agreement at the next public meeting, according to the settlement agreement released Friday.

Mr. Mickavicz's lawsuit against school directors and the district in June 2012 claimed he was fired in 2010, just one year after being hired, when the dynamics of the board shifted to include five Moosic residents and four Taylor residents, and that he was ousted because of where he lived.

The board that hired him was composed of five Taylor residents and four Moosic residents.

The lawsuit sought compensation for benefits and emotional distress.
