MONTROSE - An Oakland man pleaded guilty Friday to a drug charge, more than four months after officers found heroin in his home during a routine parole check.

Stephen Whritenour, 31, pleaded guilty in Susquehanna County Court to one count of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver.

In a May 31 state parole check at the residence, officers discovered 15 grams of heroin hidden in a puzzle box in the living room of the home.

Mr. Whritenour was on parole for a similar charge at the time of this incident, District Attorney Jason Legg told the court.

As part of the plea agreement, Mr. Whritenour will be sentenced to serve the five-year mandatory minimum for the offense, which will run concurrently with the parole violation sentence.

The district attorney, however, waived the mandatory $30,000 fine for the offense and he also agreed to drop charges related to a March incident in which Mr. Whritenour allegedly sold drugs to a police informant.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on both the possession with intent to deliver count and the parole violation by President Judge Kenneth Seamans on Nov. 19.

Mr. Whritenour's wife, Shawna, 29, also faces drug trafficking charges. Her case is still pending in Susquehanna County Court.
