Jessup wildfire burns 5-6 acres
JESSUP - Firefighters battled a brush fire the borough's fire chief estimated spread to between 5 and 6 acres late Sunday afternoon.
Fire Chief Steve Pitoniak said firefighters from Jessup and neighboring Olyphant, along with state forest rangers, battled the blaze in an area off Route 247 near Alberigi Drive.
Within an hour, firefighters got the wildfire under control in rocky, steep terrain using an off-road tanker and brush trucks, the chief said.
Chief Pitoniak said it took another hour and a half to "take out the hot spots."
