Abington Financial Group

Sheryl "Sherry" Moore has joined the Clarks Summit company as a financial adviser. She holds registrations Series 7, 63, 65, 24 and life insurance. Ms. Moore lives in Waverly.

Colleen Shimko has joined as registered assistant and director of marketing. Ms. Shimko holds the registration Series 7. Ms. Shimko lives in Clarks Summit with husband, Scott, and their four children.

Ben Franklin Technology Partners

Edward Thompson, CPA, consultant, Clarks Summit, has been awarded a Northeastern Pennsylvania Innovation Award. Mr. Thompson received the Partnership award given to an individual whose strong vision, dedication and commitment have helped the Ben Franklin Technology Partners accomplish its goals.

Dyller Law Firm

The Pennsylvania Bar Association Young Lawyers Division presented its Michael K. Smith Excellence in Service Award to an associate of the law firm, Kelly Bray Snyder of Wilkes-Barre. The award is named in memory of a young Philadelphia lawyer committed to providing legal services for low-income people and to offering law-related educational programs to students. Ms. Snyder is the current president of the Wilkes-Barre Law and Library Association Young Lawyers Division. Ms. Snyder is a 2005 graduate of Pace University School of Law with a certificate in environmental law and a 2002 magna cum laude graduate of King's College.

Frontier Communications

Russell Johnson has been promoted to general manager of Frontier's Northeast Pennsylvania operations, effective immediately. In this role, Mr. Johnson is responsible for revenue growth, cost management and superior customer service delivery within the Northeast Pennsylvania market, and especially for fostering strong customer and community relationships and for identifying key business opportunities. His areas now include Dallas/Back Mountain, Shickshinny, Conyngham, Bangor and Pocono Lake local area markets. Mr. Johnson is a graduate of Penn State University's telecommunications engineering technology program and lives in Hunlock Creek with his wife, Doreen. The couple has three adult daughters.

Lackawanna County 911 Center

Management and supervisory personnel from the 911 center attended a two-day Incident Command System 400 (ICS) class in April at the Jessup facility to learn the latest methods and procedures for handling major crisis situations. Staff members in attendance include emergency services director David Hahn, deputy 911 director John Lewis, Deputy EMA director Rich Barbolish and quality and assurance manager Al Kearney. The 911 supervisors who participated in the seminars include Mark Tagliaterra, John Wildman, Thomas Taylor, Mike Kelechowa, Patrick Gillott, Wesley Jones, Alan Wright and Charles Saxe.

National Penn

Sean W. Gibson has been named officer and branch manager for the Shavertown branch. Mr. Gibson, who has seven years of banking experience, is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations at the Shavertown branch. In addition, he will help to generate new business while leading staff members in sales, training and customer service. Mr. Gibson holds his Series 6, 63, PA Life and Health Insurance License. A resident of Harding, Mr. Gibson earned his associate degree from Penn State University Hazleton.

PDQ Print Center

David J. Price, president and CEO, was honored by the Northeast Pennsylvania Council of the Boy Scouts of America with its Eminent Eagle Award at a dinner in April. The award is given to those in the community who have become successful in their career and who have earned the rank of Eagle Scout during their youth. Mr. Price is the owner of a commercial real estate business in Scranton. He became an Eagle Scout in 1972. Mr. Price is a member of Trinity Congregational Church, West Scranton. He and his wife, Lauren, live in Clarks Summit, and he is the son of Dorothy J. Price and the late Llewellyn J. Price, West Scranton.

Penn State

Nursing instructor Michael Evans, M.S.N., M.S.Ed., R.N., A.C.N.S., C.M.S.R.N., C.N.E., has received his certificate for online teaching through the university. Mr. Evans was also one of 23 Penn State faculty to participate in a 2012-13 pilot of the new technology application, Doceri, facilitated by the university's information technology services. He used the Doceri application in one of his courses, Nursing 390: Transition and the Professional Nursing Role.

Salvation Army

Lts. Ted and Sharon Tressler are the new corps commanding officers at the Salvation Army, Wilkes-Barre. Originally from Williamsport, they relocated to Northeast Pennsylvania from Suffern, N.Y., where they graduated from the Salvation Army's School for Officer Training.

Women's Health Center

Hoon Yoo, M.D., board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist, received the inaugural Golden Stethoscope Award for 2013. The award, presented by Wayne Memorial Community Health Centers, recognizes outstanding health care providers for commitment and leadership in the areas of clinical development, patient satisfaction and loyalty to the community, Wayne Memorial Health System and WMCHC.
