South Side Watch schedules events

SCRANTON - The South Side Scranton Neighborhood Watch is encouraging residents to participate in the Great South Side Cleanup Saturday, in an effort to upkeep properties and make the neighborhood more visually appealing.

More than 120 have already volunteered to participate in the event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Anyone interested in participating is asked to contact Jill Murrin at 346-6203 x 16.

Alzheimer's patient missing, police say

LEHMAN TWP. - State police at Blooming Grove are searching for a Bushkill man who suffers from Alzheimer's who wandered away from his Mountain View Way home Wednesday.

Wallace Keefe, 80, left his home about 7:30 a.m. in his 2012 black Ford Focus with the license plate GKS-6056.

Police said Mr. Keefe may be heading to Florida or to Giants Stadium in New Jersey and may be in danger because of his dementia.

He was believed to be wearing a multi-colored sweater, tan pants and black sneakers. Mr. Keefe is partially bald with gray hair, and stands 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing about 145 pounds.

Anyone who comes into contact with him is asked to call 911.

Police nab man after fleeing

HONESDALE - Nikolas Reeder, 21, of Honesdale, was charged with fleeing and eluding police, recklessly endangering another person and several summary vehicle code violations after Honesdale police tried to pull him over for a suspended license near Maple Avenue Saturday at 5:21 p.m.

Mr. Reeder did not stop and police pursued but ended the chase due to Mr. Reeder's disregard for other drivers.

However, police picked him up on Sunday for unrelated charges. He was arraigned before Magistrate Bonnie Carney on Monday for charges relating to the chase.

He remains in Wayne County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 24.

Sentencing pushed for clerical error

WILKES-BARRE - Dressed in a dark-colored suit and sporting a silver tie, Girard Kalinay was prepared to learn his fate Wednesday for robbing three area banks.

But due to a clerical error, victims and police failed to receive notice of the sentencing hearing, forcing Luzerne County Judge Michael Vough to reschedule sentencing for April 26 at 9 a.m.

Mr. Kalinay, 56, of Harveys Lake pleaded guilty to robbing three banks in 2011 and 2012 - Luzerne Bank in Dallas Twp., First Liberty Bank and Trust in Monroe Twp., Wyoming County, and PNC Bank in Mocanaqua.
