SCRANTON - City police have taken a Wilkes-Barre man into custody after he tried to sell what Scranton police believe are the remnants of bronze vases taken from Cathedral Cemetery over Easter weekend.
Scranton Detective Sgt. Robert Golden identified the man as 40-year-old Erik Zimmerman, address unavailable, and said police caught him trying to sell the bronze to a scrap metal dealer on Keyser Avenue.
Detective Sgt. Golden said the vases had apparently been cut up with a machine saw.
Police were still interviewing Mr. Zimmerman at 5:30 p.m., and Detective Sgt. Golden said the charges had not yet been finalized.
