Scranton Sirens win WVIA Emmy
And the Emmy goes to ... Northeast Pennsylvania's public television station, WVIA.
The PBS station's film from Scranton's past, "Remembering the Scranton Sirens" was nominated for a 2012 Emmy award by the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in the Outstanding Documentary category.
Members of WVIA management and staff who produced it had the honor to not only attend the 30th Annual Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards in Philadelphia, but take the stage to accept the award.
Those grabbing the iconic statuette were Andrew Sordoni, executive producer; Bill Kelly, president/executive producer; Tom Currá, executive producer; Greg Matkosky, creative director of documentary films; Kris Hendrickson, editor; Kathryn Davies, production administrator; and Ben Payavis II, production manager.
The film takes a look into the musical legacy of the Scranton Sirens, a significant "territory" dance band that performed in the years after World War I.
And WVIA's awards didn't stop at one. It also took home an Emmy for Outstanding Human Interest Program/Special for the production of the 2011 Little League Challenger Exhibition Game.
