A public viewing for fallen Correctional Officer Eric Williams of Nanticoke has been scheduled for Friday, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., in the gymnasium of Greater Nanticoke Area High School, 425 Kosciuszko St., Nanticoke, according to the Davis-Dinelli Funeral Home in Nanticoke.

Williams' funeral mass is slated for Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Faustina Kowalska Church -- the former Holy Trinity Church -- at 520 S. Hanover St., Nantcoke, the funeral home said.

Afterward, Williams, 34, will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery, South Main Street, Hanover Township, officials said.

Earlier today, Gov. Tom Corbett ordered all Pennsylvania flags in the Capitol and at commonwealth facilities in Luzerne County to fly at half-staff in honor of Williams, who was murdered Monday at work.

Williams was beaten and stabbed repeatedly at U.S. Penitentiary at Canaan in Wayne County on Monday night as he was preparing to lock inmates in their cells for a nightly head count, officials have said.

An autopsy conducted Tuesday determined Williams died by homicide as a result of blunt-force trauma to the head and neck and bleeding caused by multiple stab wounds, according to the Lackawanna County Coroner’s office.

No charges have been filed in the homicide.

Corbett’s order calls for flags to remain at half-staff until his interment.
