City stoplights being inspected
SCRANTON - The batch of 50 new city stoplights will not function efficiently until all of them have been installed and synchronized, authorities said.
Inspectors for the state Department of Transportation were out looking at some of the new lights in downtown Scranton on Thursday after receiving complaints about certain lights running out of sync.
Tom Pichiarella, traffic signal supervisor for PennDOT, said the lights will not work as intended until they are all installed and synchronized.
Though it is a city project, Mr. Pichiarella said PennDOT is inspecting the lights because they were funded in part with federal money.
City Department of Public Works Director Mark Dougher said there is no completion date yet for the project.
