DUNMORE - Borough and state police filed new charges on Tuesday against the Electric Street man accused of attempting to kill several people by burning down a home in his neighborhood earlier this year.
Mark Loughney, 35, of 1615 Electric St., now faces 35 counts, including six counts of attempted homicide and eight counts of arson for allegedly setting 1611 Electric St. on fire using gasoline and a match.
The incident arose out of a series of arguments and fights between Mr. Loughney and several occupants of the two-unit apartment building at 1611 Electric St. the evening of July 15, according to an amended criminal complaint filed Tuesday against Mr. Loughney.
Just after midnight the following morning, Mr. Loughney walked through the home's first floor pouring and splashing gasoline from a red can about the rooms.
He then struck a match and an "instant fireball" erupted, one of the four victims told investigators, according to the complaint.
Corey Miles, one of two victims who suffered burns so severe he was transported to the burn unit at Lehigh Valley Medical Center in Allentown, said he fled to the front of the house after noticing his legs were on fire.
"I told you not to (expletive) with me," Mr. Loughney told him as we walked past the burning man, according to the complaint.
Borough police later arrested Mr. Loughney, who was also treated at Lehigh Valley Medical Center's burn unit, after finding him at a friend's house.
On Tuesday, Mr. Loughney ultimately waived the preliminary hearing scheduled in the case.
A formal arraignment was scheduled for Nov. 9 at 9 a.m.
