Old Forge to consider townhouses

OLD FORGE - The borough may see the addition of up to 18 townhouses on the 600 block of Milwaukee Avenue in the near future.

The Old Forge zoning board is expected to vote during a zoning meeting Thursday on whether the owner of the property, Maple Leaf Village Inc., should be granted special exception use to build townhouses on the property, borough Zoning Officer Stephen Bieryla said.

County and state records show the owner is George Dunbar Jr., president of the another Old Forge townhouse development, Lilac Meadows Inc. Those townhouses were given the OK for development in 2011, despite some resident concerns.

Efforts to reach Mr. Dunbar were unsuccessful Thursday.

The property is located on an R-1 zone, a zone typically designated for single-family dwellings, Mr. Bieryla said. Though each townhouse would be considered a single-family dwelling, their proximity to each other requires a special exception use.

At the meeting, the board also will act on several variance requests before the plan would be sent to the borough's planning commission to finalize details on development.

The board will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday in the Old Forge Municipal Building.
