Weichert gets No. 2 ranking
Weichert Real Estate Affiliates Inc. was ranked No. 2 by Entrepreneur magazine among competitors in the real estate category in its "Entrepreneur 2013 Franchise 500" list, an annual ranking of America's top franchise opportunities.
Association sponsors party: The Pike County Bar Association sponsored the Center for Developmental Disabilities' annual Christmas party. Santa Claus delivered more than 167 Christmas presents donated by the bar association.
Loan program helps: MetroAction's loan programs helped owner and operator of La Vita Grace Salon, Cindy Morgan. Ms. Morgan received a $7,000 loan that helped her move her salon to its current location and allowed her hire more employees.
Companies unite: Lewith & Freeman and Golden Real Estate, two leading real estate companies in the area, have combined.
Trackside Grill bus ticket agent: Trackside Grill, Honesdale, has recently been appointed contractor for the authorized sale of tickets for motor carrier passenger transportation offered to the public by Hudson Transit Lines and its connecting lines. Tickets are for sale at Trackside Grill and the bus departs from Honesdale three times daily with service to Port Authority Bus Terminal and points in between. Connections are also available for other points in New York and New Jersey.
Bank donates: First Liberty Bank and Trust presented a check to the United Way of Lackawanna and Wayne Counties for $10,000 Educational Improvement Tax Credit in support of the United Way's commitment to quality pre-kindergarten education for area children.
PPL contributes: PPL made an $8,000 contribution to Junior Achievement of Northeastern Pennsylvania Inc. through the Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program to support Junior Achievement's financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship programs.

Donation received: First National Community Bank announced a $4,700 Education Improvement Tax Credit donation to the NEIU 19 Creative Opportunities Regarding Education Foundation. The donation will help the foundation create and enhance educational opportunities for educators and students in the 20 school districts served by NEIU.
Chamber recognizes business: The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce recognized one of downtown Hazleton's longest-standing members of the community, Fellin's Jewelers, in business for 90 years.
Documentary honored: SamSon Productions announced the Accolade Competition presented it with two awards for excellence for its documentary "Conyngham, PA.: Jewel of the Valley." The awards were presented for excellence in the documentary category, as well as the Historical/Biographical/Travel Category. The half-hour documentary highlights the borough's Revolutionary War history, its development and the role the Conyngham Valley plays in the Greater Hazleton community.
