TUNKHANNOCK - A presidential emergency declaration for Wyoming County damage from Superstorm Sandy in October has left local EMA director Gene Dziak scratching his head.
"We didn't really suffer anything of that magnitude," Mr. Dziak said Friday afternoon after seeing the declaration in his Tunkhannock office.
"We had some pretty strong winds and trees did fall on a couple of homes, but that was about it," he added, noting that power outages were spotty and bad at times, but nothing to match the hardest-hit communities elsewhere.
"It's good to know that we can file a claim," Mr. Dziak said, "but I don't think we'll need to do that."
Noting that neighboring Sullivan County to the west was also in the presidential declaration, Mr. Dziak said he really didn't know how hard Sullivan was hit.
"We had some low-level flooding from the Mehoopany Creek not too far from the Sullivan County line," Mr. Dziak said, "but that's all I know."
