SCOTT TWP. - A few charred walls and a blackened foundation were all that remained of a township home that was destroyed after fire tore through the structure shortly before 9 p.m. Friday.
No one was home and no one was injured during the fire at Jay Avenue and Scranton Street in Scott Twp. near Chapman Lake, First Assistant Fire Chief Matthew Pritchyk said.
Firefighters from several departments spent an hour quelling the blaze engulfing the house, leaving the area laden with thick smoke. Neighbors looked on as the home was swallowed in smoke and flames.
Unlike many of the homes around the Chapman Lake area that are summer homes, the structure that was destroyed was lived in year-round, Assistant Chief Pritchyk said.
The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
