Kaplan's Furniture closes its doors
WILKES-BARRE TWP. - Kaplan's Furniture, a long-time family-owned business on Mundy Street, is going out of business.
Eight people who work there will lose their jobs, said David Mayers, 61, the third generation co-owner who has been at the helm of the store for more than 35 years. Mr. Mayers, who operates the store with his sister-in-law and partner Pam Dixon, is retiring. His two sons are film editors and not interested in taking over the business, he said.
"Business has been rough the last few years with the economy and the competition," he said. "It's a very, very competitive business."
