A general manager at a Scranton hotel said the facility had received clearance to reopen today after a fire alarm malfunction closed the hotel Monday.
The hotel on Meadow Avenue closed about 1 p.m. Monday after smoke from hot towels in a laundry room failed to set off an alarm linked to city fire headquarters, according to Mark D'Angelo, general manager at the Clarion.
There were no flames, he said, and city fire officials were notified.
A fire inspector determined the hotel's alarm system was not transmitting, Deputy Fire Chief Al Lucas said, so the facility was closed Monday afternoon.
Mr. D'Angelo said they received the OK from a fire inspector to reopen Thursday. He said the hotel will open by 11 a.m. and guests who were displaced during the period while it was closed can return.
About 65 of the Clarion's 135 rooms were occupied, Mr. D'Angelo said, and the guests were transferred to other local hotels.
Most of the hotel staff did not work on Tuesday and early today, he said.
"We are here, but just the salaried staff is on," Mr. D'Angelo said. "There is still work to be done, but there's no guests."
The hotel is owned by Scranton Hospitality LLC and operated by Twin Tier Hospitality LLC, both of Sayre.
