Misericordia class above average

Misericordia University nursing students who recently graduated from the Bachelor of Science program surpassed the state and national averages for pass rates on the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses during the past year.

Firm selected: Dewberry, a national professional services firm, has been selected to provide final design for the $12 million replacement of the three-span concrete arch Harrison Avenue Bridge in Scranton. In addition to the main span crossing Roaring Brook, the structure also spans the Central Scranton Expressway and the Delaware & Lackawanna Railroad.

Firm featured: JKF Technologies will be featured in the Northeastern Pennsylvania Industrial Resource Center "Made In Northeastern PA" series.

Prova gets loan: Prova Systems of Carbondale was featured in Keystone Edge. The company will get a $50,000 loan to support the launch and commercial development of a new application for fleet management.

University receives high marks: Freshmen and seniors at Misericordia University rated their overall educational experience as positive and gave their university higher marks than comparable institutions in several important categories in the 2012 National Survey of Student Engagement.

Council hosts program: The Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Business & Industry's Women in Business Council met at Genetti's in Wilkes-Barre. The speaker for the November program was Fred Aebli, instructor at Penn State Worthington Scranton Campus, and the topic was "Can You Make Time - How To Get More Accomplished in the Time You Have." Members of the McCann School of Business massage therapy class also attended.

New facility opens: The Friendship House is opening a new facility for early learning at Lake Wallenpaupack. The center named "Growing by Leaps and Bounds" is a full-day pre-kindergarten program and day care center for boys and girls, ages 3 months through 6 years. The program is expected to be ready to accept enrollments in early 2013 and will feature research-based education and social, emotional, behavioral curricula, including Opening the World of Learning and the Incredible Years. Outpatient service will also be available on site.

Bank donates: First National Community Bank announced an Education Improvement Tax Credit donation to Scranton Preparatory School's PJHS Scholarship Organization. The $47,400 donation will help provide scholarship assistance to students and families who cannot afford full tuition.

Firm awarded: Borton-Lawson took second place in the Innovation in Bridges category of the international Bentley Be Inspired awards competition in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Company recognized: Procter & Gamble was recognized for sustainable business practices at Duquesne University's November 2012 sustainability symposium.
