Criminal charges have been refiled against a GAR teacher for allegedly body slamming a student in defense of another student, according to court documents.

The District Attorney’s office refiled charges of simple assault and harassment Tuesday against Joshua Wasielewski, 27, after they had been dropped May 26 due to the victim not attending the preliminary hearing.

According to the affidavit, Wasielewski was escorting a student to class March 24 as the victim ran up behind the student yelling, “I heard you are going to get (expletive) up.” As the victim made contact with the student’s shoulders, Wasielewski allegedly said, “No you are the only one that’s going to get (expletive) up.”

Police said Wasielewski grabbed the victim, pushed him into the lockers, picked him up and slammed him to the hallway floor.
Wasielewski told the officers he was protecting the other student from the alleged victim, according to court documents.

After the officers showed the video to the victim’s mother and aunt on March 26, the victim went to Wilkes-Barre General Hospital for treatment of blunt abdominal trauma, police said.

Wasielewski was suspended without pay by the Wilkes-Barre Area School District pending the outcome of the case.

He was released on his own recognizance pending a preliminary hearing scheduled for June 16.
