COVID-19's death toll holds in NEPA

The state Health Department reported no new COVID-19-related deaths in Northeast Pennsylvania on Sunday and eight new cases.

Statewide, the number of cases increased by 336 for a total of 78,798. Four more deaths have been attributed to the disease, and a total of 6,215 people have died since the beginning of the pandemic.

The department has confirmed 21 cases of multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children, or MIS-C, across the state.

All 67 counties have advanced either to the green or yellow phase in Gov. Tom Wolf’s plan to reopen the state. In the seven northeast counties, only Lackawanna, Luzerne and Susquehanna counties remain in the yellow phase. The others have moved to green, the final phase of the reopening plan.

Lackawanna County added one new case, bringing the case count to 1,601; deaths remain at 194.

In Luzerne, six new cases bring the total caseload to 2,830; deaths remain at 164.

Monroe added no new cases, so its total stands at 1,347; deaths remain at 104.

In Pike, cases held at 482; deaths held at 20.

Susquehanna added one new case for a total 170; deaths held at 17.

Cases in Wayne held at 126; deaths held at nine.

In Wyoming, cases held at 36; deaths held at seven.
