Abington Heights High School

Marilyn Pryle, English teacher, has been selected to speak at the annual National Council of Teachers of English Convention in Nevada.

Bushkill Inn & Conference Center

Executive Chef Jorge Lopez has joined the "The Steakhouse." Mr. Lopez has served as sous chef for Chef Wolfgang Puck, as well as at the Patina in Los Angeles. He has worked as executive sous chef at the Las Vegas Regent Grand Spa Hotel and Casino and as executive chef at Lutece at the Venetian in Las Vegas. Additionally, Mr. Lopez served as corporate executive chef for 105 properties under the Columbia Sussex Corp.

East Stroudsburg University

Seven East Stroudsburg University faculty members and authors set to be recognized at the institution's eighth annual University Authors' Reception include, Marcia L. Gasper, associate professor of nursing, for "Clinical Simulations for Nursing Education: Learner Volume" and "Clinical Simulations for Nursing Education: Instructor Volume."

Sheila Handy, associate professor of business management and chairwoman of the business management department, for "Instructor Resource Manual for Cost Accounting 14th Edition," and "Instructor Resource Manual for Advanced Accounting, 11th Edition."

Jane E. Huffman, distinguished professor of biological sciences, for "Pandemic Influenza Viruses: Science, Surveillance and Public Health."

Jeffrey S. Ruth, associate professor of modern languages and chairman of modern languages department, for "Urban Honor in Spain: The Laus Urbis from Antiquity through Humanism."

Stephanie Romano, associate professor of reading, for "Revision Strategies for Adolescent Writers: Moving Students in the Write Direction."

Niandong Shi, professor of mathematics, for "Algebraic Model Theory, An Introduction in Chinese."

Steven Shive, professor of health studies, for "Pandemic Influenza Viruses: Science, Surveillance and Public Health."

Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center

Sandra Voyak, L.P.N., was presented the Nightingale Award of Pennsylvania in the Clinical Practice, Licensed Practical Nurse category.

Ms. Voyak received the nomination while working as an L.P.N. on the sixth floor medical/surgical and pediatrics units of Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center. Nurses nominated for the Nightingale Award are recognized for providing outstanding quality of patient care, superior nursing clinical skills, active community involvement and compassion.

Geisinger Health System

Peter Berger, M.D., chairman of cardiology throughout the Geisinger Health System, was recently selected to speak at the seventh annual Cardiometabolic Health Congress in Boston. The event's featured session, "Hot Topics in Thrombosis and ACS," was moderated by Deepak L. Bhatt, M.D., M.P.H., professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and chief of cardiology at VA Boston Healthcare System, both in Boston.

Keystone Associates Architects, Engineers and Surveyors LLC

Christopher Zarrelli, Q.C.xP., has joined the firm as a mechanical designer. His duties will include design of building heating and cooling systems. Mr. Zarrelli has an associate of applied science in liberal arts from Broome Community College and is a certified accredited quality commissioning process provider.

King's College

Fevzi Akinci, professor of health care administration at King's College, was the keynote speaker at the recent sixth annual Health and Hospital Management Congress held in Isparta, Turkey. The title of his presentation was "Global Trends in Health Care Management."

Gregory Bassham, department chairman and professor of philosophy at King's College, recently published two books: "Critical Thinking: A Student's Introduction" and "The Hobbit and Philosophy."

Mang Insurance Agency LLC

Richard P. Campagna has been promoted to chief operating officer. Mr. Campagna, a Dunmore resident, joined the agency in 2011 as chief financial officer. He has 31 years of insurance and financial services industry experience. He is a 1977 graduate of the University of Scranton with a Bachelor of Science in accounting and is a certified public accountant.

MMQ

Lynette L. Danzig, C.P.A.; Sarah A. Fox, C.P.A.; and J. Christopher Jarosh, C.P.A., have all been promoted to directors and Stephanie M. Tulaney, C.P.A., was promoted to manager at the accounting and consulting firm.

Ms. Danzig will focus on directing the performance of services required by small-business clients.

Ms. Fox's position enables her to act as a liaison between partners and staff, in audit and small-business engagements.

Mr. Jarosh will provide clients with financial statement preparation, tax preparation and planning techniques on both the entity and personal level. He is also the team leader for internal audit outsourcing services. He has been with MMQ for 10 years.

Ms. Tulaney schedules staff and oversees jobs completion of numerous audit and small-business engagements.

PNC Financial Services Group

Moises Almonte is among this year's eight winners of the PNC Performance Award, the highest honor given to employees by the Pittsburgh-based corporation. The award program recognizes PNC employees who demonstrate a pattern of significant achievement and deliver a consistent level of extraordinary performance. Mr. Almonte currently serves as senior relationship manager for PNC Wealth Management in Scranton. He lives in Tannersville with his wife of 23 years, Mary Ann, and their children, Adam, Matthew, Gabriel and Alejandra. He is an avid cyclist in mountain and road biking.

Pocono Manor

Evan Shepp has been named front office manager for the resort. Mr. Shepp brings more than a decade of hospitality experience to his new position. He is a graduate of the University of Bridgeport and lives in Tobyhanna.

Riverside Rehabilitation Centers

Terry Tokach, M.S.,C.C.C.-S.L.P., has joined the staff as a part-time speech therapist and Melinda Galli, M.S., O.R.T/L., as a full-time occupational therapist.

Ms. Tokach has a Bachelor of Science in communication disorders and a Master of Science in speech/language pathology. She also has her ASHA certificate of clinical competence in SLP. Ms. Tokach evaluates and treats patients with deficits in speech, articulation, language, voice, swallowing and cognition resulting from brain injuries, strokes and other neurological and auditory processing disorders.

Ms. Galli evaluates and treats patients with injuries to their upper extremities, resulting from repetitive strain disorders, traumatic injury to the hand, wrist or forearm, arthritis, CVA, head trauma, developmental delays in motor skills, work injuries or spinal cord injuries, She received her Bachelor of Science in health science and her Master of Science in occupational therapy from Misericordia University and also holds a certificate in geriatrics.

Spojnia Credit Union

Katherine Gnat has been appointed by the credit union's board of directors. She is a graduate of Scranton Central High School and she now resides in Dunmore with her husband, the Right Rev. Bishop Emeritus Thomas J. Gnat.

Wilkins & Associates Property Management

Carrie Ridner has been hired as property manager. She will also be responsible for marketing new accounts, developing bids for accounts and making sure the associations are then brought into the company. Ms. Ridner has worked in the property management profession for more than 20 years and holds two national designations from the Community Association Institute. She will be graduating from Ashford University in May with a bachelor's in accounting and business administration.
