Benefit planned for Saturday
BLAKELY - Rigatoni and meatballs will be served to support a borough family on Saturday.
Beth Devine, 31, was forced to stop working after she was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma. Saturday's benefit will help defray medical costs, as well as living expenses for her family, which includes her three children.

Judge denies bail in hit and run
WILKES-BARRE - A man charged in a deadly hit-and-run crash in Pittston Twp. will remain in jail pending trial after a judge Thursday refused to lower his bail.
Walter Raven faces 10 counts in connection with the Sept. 2 crash that killed Donnie Pizano, 38, and Robin Walsh, 39, both of Plains Twp.
A formal arraignment is scheduled for Nov. 30 in Luzerne County Court.
Judge William H. Amesbury's ruling Thursday came after Mr. Raven's attorneys' second request to lower the $150,000 cash bail set at his September arraignment.
Mayfield won't raise taxes
MAYFIELD - The tentative 2013 budget will include no tax increase, according to borough Mayor Al Chelik. The $772,502 budget includes no changes in the 27-mill tax rate, Mr. Chelik said. A mill is equal to $1 tax for every $1,000 in assessed value.
The refuse fee will remain at $240 per household, he added. The budget was introduced at a meeting Wednesday.
Commissioner warns of scam
MONTROSE - Susquehanna County Commissioner Michael Giangrieco warned that a resident this week said someone is reportedly attempting to gain entry into homes in the Franklin Twp. area by passing themselves off as county assessors.
Mr. Giangreco said that there may be more than one person involved.
Cpl. James Kerrick said no reports by residents have been filed with state police, Gibson, as of Thursday morning but, he was made aware of the matter by Sheriff Lance Benedict.
