CLARKS SUMMIT - Carrying a plastic bag filled with nonperishable goods, Troy Kostiak lifted a can of green beans above his head and smiled.

"I am here to help the people," said the 10-year-old Cub Scout. "They need it more than I do."

More than 65 members of Cub Scout Pack 160, Clarks Summit, packed in Clarks Summit United Methodist Church on Wednesday to participate in a food drive benefiting the Dalton Food Pantry.

By the end of the night, more than 100 canned goods, ranging from tomato soup to refried beans, had been stacked on a table in a corner of the church - emphasizing the group's success in helping the hungry.

"This is the time of the year that most people think about us and donate food," said Nancy Thompson, the Dalton Food Pantry coordinator. "But right now, we probably have enough food to feed families for a couple weeks."

Ms. Thompson said the food pantry, located in Dalton United Methodist Church, serves 45 to 50 families on a regular basis. The donations provided by the scouts, she said, will certainly help.

"For a troop this size, they did a very good job collecting food," Ms. Thompson said. "Every bit counts."
