DICKSON CITY - A borough woman was sent to Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $75,000 bail on Tuesday because she really had to use the bathroom.
Well, that's why Candice Davis, 30, took a right turn from Boulevard Avenue onto Main Street on Sunday, despite the sign prohibiting right turns at red lights at the intersection, police said.
And that illegal turn is the reason borough police Officer Dan Duffy, the former chief of Scranton police, tried to stop Ms. Davis' Mercury Sable but instead had to follow her into the driveway at 825 Main St.
"I have to pee," Ms. Davis told Officer Duffy once she got out of her car.
Her apartment was "right there" at 825 Main St., and her license - which she said was suspended - was inside anyway, she told the officer. He allowed her to go inside to use the bathroom and get her license with borough police Officer Karen Gallagher as an escort.
When the two women walked inside the home, Ms. Davis tried to cover up a bag of marijuana and a blunt on her coffee table with a piece of paper, police said. Officer Gallagher told her she had already seen the spread.
Ms. Davis admitted the marijuana belonged to her and denied the officers' request to search the rest of the home.
The officers secured a search warrant and soon discovered a bag with 15 packets of heroin and four bags of crack packed in rice.
Ms. Davis was arrested for possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and related charges.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday.
