1966: Bachelor of Science degree in communications from the University of Illinois.
1968: Master of Science degree in journalism from the University of Illinois. In 2006, he was inducted as part of the inaugural class into the Illini Media Hall of Fame.
1968-1984: Began professional career as a reporter with the Rochester (N.Y.) Times-Union before being promoted to executive city editor, assistant managing editor and managing editor.
1984-1992: Vice president and executive editor of Gannett Suburban Newspapers in White Plains, N.Y, where he oversaw a staff of 350 at 11 newspapers.
1992-1998: Vice president and editor of the Cincinnati Enquirer, a 205,000 circulation daily newspaper that was twice named best in Ohio during his tenure.
1998-2000: Gannett Newspaper Division, where he was the primary author of the groups Ethical Conduct for Newsrooms.
2000-2001: Independent consultant in newsroom management for LB Enterprises. He focused on helping newspapers create efficient and effective structures, while developing content, setting standards and coaching staff.
2000-2012: Managing Editor of The Times-Tribune and Executive Editor of Times-Shamrock Communications.
