75 years ago, a fistfight nearly broke out at a Scranton City Council meeting. While Michael O'Malley was speaking about plans to sell property in South Side, John Crolley interjected, "You have been a pest and a scourge to that neighborhood for 25 years." Mr. O'Malley responded, "You wouldn't dare say that outside of here." Council members stepped between the two.

50 years ago, 75 Green Ridge residents met with the city engineer and representatives of Turnpike Coal Co. to discuss their opposition to strip mining and blasting near Maloney Field at the end of North Washington Avenue

25 years ago, an early winter storm cost Scranton $17,000 in materials and holiday pay for workers.
