Bill Clinton might be making a visit to Scranton High School.

One day after an announcement that the former president would visit Northeast Pennsylvania on Monday on behalf of President Barack Obama, Scranton School District Superintendent Bill King said he was contacted by the Obama campaign Saturday afternoon.

"They were inquiring about renting the gymnasium at Scranton High for an … event with Bill Clinton," Mr. King said, adding that he was not given any specifics about the visit.

Mr. King said he asked whether Mr. Clinton's visit would interrupt the school day and was told that campaign personnel would spend most of Monday preparing the gym for the event. The superintendent was asked to prepare a "potential contract" for the Obama campaign to rent the gym.

"It's likely that this (visit) will probably occur," Mr. King said. "But it's still being worked on."

On Friday, campaign officials announced Mr. Clinton would campaign in Northeast Pennsylvania on Monday as part of a three-city swing through the state. But on Saturday, Obama campaign spokeswoman Devora Kaye said she had no new information to release about Mr. Clinton's visit and that details "would be forthcoming."

Scranton High School has played host to a number of political notables, including Mr. Obama himself on Nov. 30.

Mr. Clinton last appeared in the region in late October 2010. He campaigned at Nanticoke Area High School for then-U.S. Rep. Paul E. Kanjorski, who lost his re-election bid to Rep. Lou Barletta.
