Police: Man tried to steal I-81 sign
MOOSIC - A Dunmore man working on his collection of highway signs was charged with attempted theft after a state trooper caught him trying to take down an Interstate 81 sign, state police said Thursday.
While on patrol on the interstate's southbound lane in Moosic on Oct. 17 at 12:30 a.m., Trooper Mark Prushinski spotted a Chevrolet pickup truck parked off the highway at mile marker 179.
As the trooper approached the pickup truck, he saw Timothy Harkins, 49, trying to remove the highway sign from its post.
Mr. Harkins told the trooper he was starting a sign collection, state police said.
He was charged with misdemeanor attempted theft and cited for a highway parking violation.
