75 years ago, Edson Peck, president of Peck Lumber and Manufacturing Co., died following surgery for appendicitis. Mr. Peck, grandson of Samuel Peck, namesake of Peckville, was involved in numerous business and civic organizations.
50 years ago, Mayor William Schmidt ordered a ban on buses and trucks on the Linden Street Bridge. The ban came after Director of Public Works Eugene Peters reported tension bars on the bridge were broken.
25 years ago, Thomas Kelly, trustee for the bankrupt Raymond Colliery, announced the coal company's vast holdings would be auctioned off Nov. 10. In Lackawanna and Susquehanna counties, some 11,000 acres with 15.5 million tons of recoverable coal would go to the highest bidder.
10 years ago, unionized workers at the Jewish Home of Eastern Pennsylvania voted to give their employer a strike notice.
