75 years ago, at a Scranton School Board meeting, James Kelly, superintendent of buildings and supplies, reported he was able to save the district $350 a month on the water and electric bills.

50 years ago, Rep. William Scranton, candidate for governor, speaking in Pittsburgh, urged all Pennsylvanians regardless of party to support President Kennedy during what became known as the Cuban Missile Crisis.

25 years ago, negotiations between COLTS and its unionized employees produced a temporary agreement to a 3-year contract, averting a strike.

10 years ago, proposals were being accepted for the rehab of sidewalks, streetlights and trees in the Providence Square area of Scranton. The North Scranton Neighborhood Association received $1 million in federal Community Development Block Grant money for the project.
