An Illinois man who led state troopers on a high-speed chase Saturday night now faces DUI charges.

State police say they tried stopping Arthur M. Brown of Evanston, Illinois, for a traffic violation about 10 p.m. Saturday in Roaring Brook Twp. near Lake Scranton, but Brown took off on Route 307 toward the city in his Ford Expedition SUV.

Another trooper spotted him at Meadow Avenue and Moosic Street, turning back onto Route 307 and driving fast back toward Lake Scranton. He tried pulling Brown over.

Again Brown fled, exceeding 80 mph in a 35 mph zone, state police said.

Near the southern end of the lake, Brown made a wide U-turn and the trooper was able to maneuver his cruiser in front of Brown, who finally stopped.

He was excited and speaking incoherently, state police said. After an evaluation at the Dunmore barracks, troopers decided Brown showed signs of being under the influence of a stimulant.

They charged him with fleeing, eluding and resisting arrest as well as DUI.

He posted $5,000 bail Sunday and was released.
