The Pennsylvania Supreme Court issued an emergency order temporarily suspending the law license of a Clarks Summit attorney charged with stealing more than $50,000 from three clients.

David W. Harris III, who had an office at 409 Davis St., was suspended based on the court’s finding that his continued practice of law is causing immediate and substantial harm, according to a press release issued by the court’s disciplinary board. Harris, 55, 435 Whitmore Ave., Mayfield, was charged Oct. 17 with three counts of theft and related charges after a county detective began investigating complaints last month. He faces a preliminary hearing 10 a.m. Dec. 18.

The suspension order directs all financial institutions at which Harris holds fiduciary funds to freeze the accounts until further court action. Lackawanna County President Judge Michael Barrasse is authorized to enter any orders necessary to protect the rights of Harris’ clients. The suspension takes effect Dec. 8 and continues until further notice of the court.
