The Pennsylvania Supreme Court issued an emergency order temporarily suspending the law license of a Clarks Summit attorney charged of stealing more than $50,000 from three clients.

David W. Harris III, who had an office at 409 Davis Street, was suspended based on the court’s finding that his continued practice of law is causing immediate and substantial harm, according to a press release issued by the court’s disciplinary board.

Harris, 55, 435 Whitmore Ave., Mayfield, was charged on Oct. 17 three counts of theft and related charges after a county detective began investigating complaints last month. He faces a preliminary hearing on the charges Dec. 18 at 10 a.m.

The emergency suspension order directs all financial institutions at which Harris holds fiduciary funds to freeze the accounts until further action by the court. Lackawanna County President Judge Michael Barrasse is also authorized to enter any orders that may be necessary to protect the rights of Harris’ clients.

The suspension takes effect on Dec. 8 and will continue until further notice of the court.
